Resume: Ben Ruffell Camera Operator

Ben Ruffell is an experienced camera operator working across commercial, television and feature film productions throughout New Zealand and Australia.

He is regularly engaged as B-camera, C-camera and second-unit operator on productions requiring precise camera execution, strong situational awareness and reliable on-set collaboration.

Ben has extensive experience operating in action-based and technically demanding environments, including automotive shoots, tracking vehicle work, arm car systems and specialist rig setups. He is highly comfortable operating on fast-moving commercial sets as well as larger multi-camera film productions where continuity, coverage and technical consistency are critical.

Aerial operating is a core part of Ben’s skillset. He is experienced in both drone and full-scale helicopter aerial operations, working alongside aviation teams using joystick and wheel-based camera control systems where required. He is fully licensed for advanced drone operations in both New Zealand (CAA Part 102) and Australia (CASA).

With over 25 years of experience in the camera department, Ben brings calm, focused professionalism to every production. He works effectively with camera assistants, grips, special effects teams and stunt coordinators, and is known for being adaptable, solutions-driven and reliable under pressure.

Ben is based between Queenstown, New Zealand and the Gold Coast, Australia, and is available for local and travelling productions.
